Directors

Mr. David High is a native of Dayton, Ohio.  He has been an educator for over 25 years. He is a graduate
of Walter E. Stebbens High School where he also served as a band and orchestra director.  While at
Stebbens  he studied clarinet under the auspicious Don Bassett (who played with John Phillip Sousa and for
Selma Clarinet Company). Mr. High matriculated at Eastern Kentucky University graduating in 1976 with a
Bachelors of Arts in Music-Education (area of concentration: clarinet). He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfornia International Music Fraternity and honorary member of Delta Omicorn Music Fraternity.  Mr. High
taught in the Springfield (Ohio) City Schools District for three years.  In 1980 Mr. High completed his Master of
Music Education (emphasis on music theory and composition) from Eastern Kentucky University.  He served
as an Assistant Professor of Music at Georgetown College (Georgetown, Kentucky) for three years. He served
as a state officer for KMENC.  Mr. High came to Dekalb County Public Schools in 1983.  He has taught at
Cedar Grove High School and came to Lithonia High School in 1993.  Mr. High is a prolific composer and
arranger. His concerto compositions were featured on NPR. His honors include Star Teacher (1998 & 2008)
and the Dekalb County 25 year Teaching Award.  He is a member of MENC/GMEA and NEA.  He is the
GMEA District IV Organizing Chair for All-State and District Honor Band. He is married (for 30 years) to the
lovely Christine Eckman High. They are the proud parents of two grown children Matthew (Brandie) High
currently a mathematics teacher and coach in Trenton, GA and Michael High, recent graduate of University of
West Georgia.


Mr. Michael Lloyd is a native of Atlanta, GA. He matriculated at North Atlanta High’s Performing Arts
Magnet School under the direction of Mr. Reginald Colbert. He played tuba and trombone in several bands. He
was a member of the GMEA 5th District Honor Band and served as Drum Major for North Atlanta High.  Mr.
Lloyd attended Tennessee State University where he majored in Music-Education (area of concentration in
Tuba). He was a founding member of the Tuba Den (Tuba ensemble) The ensemble performed for the MENC
National Convention in 2002 in Nashville, Tennessee.  He served as the TSU Marching Band Drum Major.  He
was also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia International Music Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Mu Academic
Fraternity, and Gold Key International Honor Society.  He graduated with honors as a Magna Com Laude. Mr.
Lloyd came to Dekalb County Public Schools in 2006.  He received a record number of former students
receiving scholarships for college.  He is a member of MENC/GMEA and NEA. He is currently the Music
Theory instructor for the Urban Youth Harp Ensemble in Atlanta. He is married to the lovely Robin Jones-Fuqua
Lloyd and recently welcomed their first child, Little Miss Peyton Lloyd.  


Mrs. Tanika Vincent (Golden Elegance),
Mrs. Vincent’s love for dance and choreography began at the age of 7 in Nashua, NH.  She overcame many
racial barriers and was asked to choreograph for the Nashua City Cheer and Dance Troupe in NH. Her
choreography lead the team to win first place in dance and overall performance.  Throughout high school Ms.
Vincent continued to choreograph and lead her JV and Varsity dance teams to many victories in other
competitions.   
As a freshman at the great Spelman College Ms. Vincent auditioned and joined the Spelman Mohogany-N-
Motion dance group.  Under the direction of Blake Gaines she trained under other noted choregaphiers,
Kenneth Green, Ralph Glenmore, Veta Goler and other contemporary dancers.  Mrs. Vincent is a proud
member of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she is a
member of the award winning step team which has placed first in 13 of their last 16 competitions and hold 3
regional stepping titles.
Lithonia High School welcomed Mrs. Vincent to its staff in 2003.  Under Mrs. Vincent the Ladies of Golden
Elegance has won competitions and placed first in the auxiliary, performance, and overall areas of the
Assymetrix Band Competition. Mrs. Vincent and her ladies work diligently and expect to bring more awards
and accolades to the Lithonia High School Marching Band repertoire.
